ANOTHER AWARD FOR THE BICKERTON POACHER Winner 2017 STAR PUB AWARDS. HEART OF THE COMMUNITY.

We are delighted to announce that The Bickerton Poacher has been recognised by Star Pubs and Bars (Heineken) with an award for Heart of the Community Regional Winner . We were selected from over one thousand outlets on the Star Pubs and Bar estate The award was given for our continued efforts in supporting local and national charities and our efforts in sustaining a traditional innovative establishment that supports and provides for the local community Over the last ten years we with the support of our customers and suppliers help raise over £100, 000 for charities with our charity burns nights and Bonfire nights (in association with Nantwich and Weavers Rotary Club) Various donations to Schools and Churches and good causes. We support two ladies darts teams and two pool teams and draw visitors to our site with Bed and Breakfast and our Campsite. We are delighted with this achievement and thank you for all our customers and colleagues continued support.

Bickerton Pub Wins Innovation Award in National Competition

The Bickerton Poacher in Bickerton has beaten over 1,300 other pubs to win the Retail Innovation Award in a national competition run by Heineken owned Star Pubs & Bars this week.

The judges were looking for licensees who have built successful pubs by finding new ways of attracting customers. They were bowled over by how Ian and Tracy Williams have transformed the Bickerton Poacher from a rundown unloved pub into a thriving hub of the community since taking it over 12 years ago, reopening parts of the building that had been completely closed.

Ian was working for Dixons and Tracy for Tesco when they gave up their day jobs to follow their dream of running a pub and the judges felt their retail experience showed. "The Bickerton Poacher was a sleeping giant that was almost dead, the Williams have reawakened it and their ideas keep on coming, This award is a real tribute to their hard work, skill and willingness to innovate," says Chris Jowsey, trading director for Star Pubs & Bars.

As well as refurbishing the Bickerton Poacher throughout to create a comfortable traditional pub, the Williams have added bed & breakfast rooms, built up a reputation for award winning pub food, converted an overgrown field into a camp site, restored the pub's skittle alley, converted an old games room into a village shop and launched a whole series of popular events, the latest being a music festival.

Ian and Tracy received the coveted award at a gala celebration night from snooker champion John Parrott.

Receiving Award

Says Ian, "We've always been firm believers that the traditional pub can stand the test of time, my grandfather was a publican and it feels great to be keeping a family tradition alive too. We have a fantastic staff and as a team always try to deliver the best for our customers. It's a great honour to be recognised for something we do every day."

It’s a great way to gain a nationally recognised qualification, get hands-on experience and develop the skills that will enable you to progress to Level 3 and both Front of House and Kitchen full-time employment.

Be prepared to work under pressure in a fast moving busy work place and to work unsociable hours, including weekends.

Working Week: Five days out of seven with College time included within the working week. Hours of work will be determined by the demands of the business, between the hours of 8am and 12am.
